Once a year the hottest Latin music artists converge in New York City for the Latin Alternative Music Conference and now in its eighth year, it’s expected to reach new heights.
This year the conference is highlighted by what is sure to be a tremendous performance in Central Park on Saturday by Mexico’s biggest alternative rock band Café Tacuba. Bronx’s own Pacha Massive and La Sista from Puerto Rico will also be on the Café Tacuba lineup.
Thursday at SOB’s features a staggering lineup for its acoustic showcase with performances by Zoé, Chetes, The Pinker Tones, Ceci Bastida, Volumen Cero and many more. Though if you prefer to listen to them plugged in and loud, check out this same lineup at the LAMC/Celebrate Brooklyn Show at Prospect Park Bandshell.
LAMC will also feature an indie showcase at the Mercury Lounge on Wednesday with Upground, B-Side Players, Liquits and more.
Another reason the LAMC has become an annual favorite, aside from the substantial list of performers, is the informative panels. This year some of the topics include the Latin digital world, the new crop of Latin new media companies, a look back at the last ten years in Latin American alternative music and the surge of bilingual programming.
The conference begins today with a screening of So What’s Your Price? (¿Y Tú, Cuánto Cuestas?) and a performance by Federico Aubele at Central Park Summerstage.
