With Timeless, Sergio Mendes introduced himself to a new generation of music lovers, while not alienating his older fans who grew up listening to his “Brasil ‘66” sound. On Encanto, he continues to re-invent himself while still keeping true to his old school Brazillian roots, which Sergio practically invented—modern Brazillian music. If you thought Timeless was so good, Encanto will have you yearning to go to Brazil!
Encanto is bursting with musical treats, infectious sound, and top notch efforts from the stellar line-up of A list talent—Natalie Cole, Herb Alpert, and many others representing the old school—Fergi, Juanes, reppin’ the new school, and many other acclaim international artists—the album combines tropical sounds with Hip-Hop, jazz, samba, R&B and pop. Its eclectic touch may turn off traditionalists—however, it begs to be listened to, and once it grows on you, there’s no way you’ll turn it off or even turn the sound down. "The Look of Love", "Waters Of March", "Dreamer", and "Somewhere In The Hills (O Morro Nao Tem Vez)" are the definite picks to listen to. The new interpretation of “The Look of Love,” produced by will.i.am, provides you with a newer, bolder, 21st century vibe, with an added bonus of a sexy rap brought to you courtesy of Fergie.
Also, be on the lookout for the “Funky Bahia,” a contagiously outstanding track that melds nicely with the rest of the tracks on Encanto.
For the serious, hardcore Sergio fans who yearn for a return to the 60’s, don’t fret—there are tracks that will most definitely bring you back to Sao Paulo, circa 1967. But for those who like the blending of the old Sergio with Hip-Hop, you’ll be on the first flight to Brazil, right away, as Encanto will have you feeling. The music is both modern and great, and it will able to bring different generations to enjoy this album.
