Pitbull has released the album that will place him among Hip Hop’s elite MCs. Boatlift raises Pitbull’s status as not just a dope Latino rhyme slinger who commands respect, but a versatile lyricist who can raise the bar and be on par with today’s best.
On Boatlift, the cameo-heavy album is more street than we’re used to hearing from Pitbull, but it also has its moments of old school club jams, R&B, and anthemic joints. Miami bass beats, featured more extensively on Boatlift than on Pitbull’s previous albums, defines Pitbull leaning more towards his rap roots. With Boatlift being a sequel to El Mariel and more focus on rap, Pitbull enlists big Hip-Hop heavyweights like Jim Jones knocking out hot rhymes on the Lil’ Jon produced “Sticky Icky”. Trina comes in to belt out her own fierce raps on “Go Girl,” and R&B up-and-comer Lloyd souls it up on “Secret Admirer,” produced by Play-N-Skillz. But listeners will most enjoy grinding it to Pitbull’s “Anthem” where Lil Jon comes in to give it more heat. Spitting in Spanish, “The Anthem” is good feeling sex flowing in Pitbull’s lyrics, where you’ll want to find a fine looking mamacita and start grinding it out on the dance floor. Boatlift is full of hot beats and lyrics, a mix of English and Spanish, straight up party joints and mellow, feel-good soul, and plenty of hits. This is Pitbull maturing, giving you a big hint of the greatness that will be unleashed, and how he is destined to change the rap game in his own way!
