palabras MARCOS COLON
To all my Latinos out there, here’s a question for you. What would you expect out of a party simply called ‘Tu Madre?’ Now I now that the quick reply is ‘la tuya,’ but hold that thought. This party is actually called Tu Madre, but it’s more of a play on the statement rather than an insult.
Held at Cameo Nightclub on the infamous Washinton Avenue, Tu Madre’s a weekly extravaganza featuring the sounds of DJs Lazardi, Lou Flores, Nikolas and Mark M. Now, this event used to feature something that’s a can’t miss combination; no cover until midnight and open bar that lasts two hours. Que deal, right?
Because of this the line at Cameo begins to form just before 11PM. No one really shows up 10PM, other than the real drinkers or friends of the opening DJ. Word to the wise, 11Pm is the best time to get there. No cover and cheap drinks are always something to take advantage of.
Although the party doesn’t feature the open bar option anymore, drinks are still at an astonishing $2 before midnight, meaning that with an extra buck the total’s $3. After about $15 or so, depending on your poison, everyone’s set to hit the dance floor with a fury.
Now the music on Thursday nights isn’t what you’d expect. There isn’t salsa blaring or the occasional slow down of bachata, instead there’s a variety of house that still keeps the crowd moving. Once Lazardi takes over the party is in full effect and continues that way until it’s closing time.
If you’re a fan of the latin atmosphere (the crowd is primarily Latinos), good music and a good time that won’t affect the pockets too much, then Tu Madre is definitely a place to hit up on your Thursday night in Miami.
