La Fonda Restaurant is Reborn on Wilshire Boulevard.
Historically known as the first restaurant in the country to incorporate live mariachi musical performances with sit-down dinning while simultaneously revolutionizing the genre in Los Angeles, La Fonda is back with the same spirit.
Founded in 1968 as the home of the best mariachi music in LA, La Fonda reemerges with its original recipe: enchanting Mariachi productions and mouthwatering dishes. Reopening at its original Wilshire Boulevard location, this LA landmark remains a nostalgic reminder of the fusion of classical Mexican folkloric music and a tantalizing dinning experience.
Guests are treated like family and encouraged to socialize and lounge in a classy yet comfortable atmosphere where mariachi music moves you and authentic Mexican cuisine with multicultural twists satisfies your soul.
With strong ties to the local community, La Fonda will collaborate with multidisciplinary cultural arts organizations in order to promote the best performing arts and music.
La Fonda unveiled the creation of the Entertainment and Cultural Center. This center will incorporate La Fonda Restaurant, Mariachi Monumental de America, Ballet Folklorico de La Fonda, Art House, The Hayworth Theater and Charles White Elementary School along with various schools within the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD).
The restaurant will showcase the Mexican culinary artistry of Chef Martin Garcia, while Mariachi Monumental de America de Juan Jose Almaguer delights your spirit with the very spirit of Mexico. Accompanying the mariachi will be La Fonda’s very own ballet folklorico, directed by Antonio Ramirez, dancing away to the traditional dances of the regions of Mexico. Art Houses will display and rotate artwork of local up and coming Latino artists every three months. In the Hayworth Theater, La Fonda in conjunction with Rick Najera will be producing Latinologues 2Tu, a comedic live stage performance with well known Latino actors that you will be sure to relate to. Finally the most important part of the Cultural Center will be the partnership with LAUSD. We will team up with the children of Charles White Elementary and begin a planting and gardening program. The fruits and vegetables that are produced from that program will be used in preparing most of La Fonda’s tantalizing cuisine. La Fonda on Wilshire in conjunction with various LAUSD schools will also create the very first All-City Mariachi Group. This group will be comprised of young talented individuals that are passionate and instrumental to the preservation of this art.
