Urge - Alongside The Cock and The Boiler Room, The Urge is the third installment of the gay micro-neighborhood where 2nd Avenue meets 2nd Street, a newly emerged corner like so many in the city where young, drunk gays can lay claim to a handful of bars in a short amount of time. Patrons at The Urge after nine o’clock are usually going to or coming from The Cock (next door) but happy hour here lures a calmer, less jubilant after-work crowd and offers decent drink specials. Mostly known for its go-go boys--muscled types who parade nightly atop the circular bar in underwear and sneakers--The Urge usually has ample seating and plays a mix of top-40, 80s and rock music. While there’s no jukebox, you’re sure to find plenty of other ways to put those spare $1 bills to use.
