Sweet Paradise Lounge - Tucked off the dark streets of BelDel/East Chinatown, Sweet Paradise Lounge is at best a standard watering hole, not unlike a drab, poorly lit basement. Its color is credited to its crowd of hipsters and locals, mostly in their 20s and 30s. From the owners of Welcome to the Johnsons, whose theme is an ode to kitschy suburban rec rooms, Sweet Paradise is a refuge for artsy mopheads and 70s vintage hounds driven out of the LES by a burgeoning ‘fratastic’ takeover. Happy hour on weekdays from 4-9pm are a draw for afterwork and neighborhood scenes. The jukebox with impressive sound system and display of vintage movie theatre candy are quirky highlights to this otherwise bland backdrop. Unless you’re feeling adventurous or just jonesin’ to hang with the native hipsterati, a visit to Sweet Paradise might not be worth the trek.
