Kibitz Room - Don't be put off by the beat-up decor or sketchy patrons; this dive bar has the goods, proving itself time and again since opening in the 1950's. Connected to LA's Canter's deli, the venue has a unique "old" smell, Gradfatherly as the combination of vinyl and pastrami. Nightly musical entertainment ranges from piano bar and live bands to jazz or country. (The Wallflowers played here regularly before going big). Anti-open mic people should avoid hitting Kibitz Room on Fridays, but those jonesing for a cheap drink should stop by any time – prices fit a tight budget, and reflect the lack of top shelf liquors. The bartenders look like ZZ Top, but ask for Eric, who books the bands, and enjoy a cheap drink and a fun conversation mixed with a bit of history.
