Dexters Chargrill & Bar - Your heart may be full of love, but your wallet is as empty as Posh Spice’s stomach. And while the pop soundtrack may not scream romance (a place like this needs jazz), Dexters’ New York bistro ambiance does. A six-seater bar stacked with wine bottles and a deceptively casual glass-walled room of modern red accents and framed black and white photographs of Marilyn Monroe and NYC monuments—a second dining room is in back—plays host to budget-conscious couples of all ages. Entrées like calamari and a terrific goat cheese, aubergine, and red pepper burger are nicely priced, and the handful of beers available start at £2.95. A place this charming is best suited for savouring a bottle of wine with your sweetheart, and Dexters has a well-edited selection to choose from, as well as complementary snacks like olives and spicy nuts. If nothing else, you’ll get bonus points for skipping the pub on date night. (A spin-off of the Tootsies chain, Dexters also has locations outside London.)
