Stout - The name alone invokes the beer gods to descend upon this midtown super-pub – and they do, especially when it comes to the stouts themselves. For you Bud Light fans, that’s really dark beer, like Guinness. Commuters head in for a quick pint before catching the train to Long Island or Jersey, and sports and music fans headed to Madison Square Garden are greeted by a proud wall of taps on display behind the bar. Sample a brew you haven’t heard of from the alphabetized chalkboard menu and maybe find a new favorite. Or ask the friendly bartenders to make a recommendation; they know their hops. When a game is on, the crowd thickens and all eyes are provided a clear view of the enormous flatscreens above. But with high ceilings and a lengthy counter, this gift-wrapped throwback to the pubs of yore never feels cramped, even at peak times. As for the wallet, prices are good for midtown, and if you like beer take comfort in knowing you’re getting more for the buck than anyone sipping those bottles with limes stuffed down the neck.
