Maracas, Richmond Hill

Came all the way from toronto with friends and family from Ny labor day weekend, and this place was a big dispointment. Dj soinc or something in that matter was the worst, the music was horrible. like someone mentioned below bring back the old Dj's, i guess they were doing a better job. I wouldnt mind anything else if the muisc was good. The bar was highly over priced. We are in a recession why they trying to kill people. this is not a city club they should play caribbean music. I would not recommened this joint to anyone. lessson learned. beautiful place but the bar, the music, and the little kids at the club runined my night.

Definitely not a fan of Maracas, and why did they change the name? Anyway, I would agree with many of the other reviewers about the negatives of this club. Though I have to say it is well layed out and decorated nicely, the music sucks and that's the number one reason I choose a spot. I have been here quite a few times, everytime expecting something better, but that's never the case. The music is just horrible, it even sounds horrible. I'd also have to agree that the bouncers are very unprofessional and I don't know who thinks the crowd at this club is grown and sexy, but all you have to do is check on the pics on their website and you'll quickly see the crowd is definiely old and ugly. If you're going on to have a good time dancing, don't choose this place.

this joint should be free all night long, damn sausage fest..they even hire a couple of dirty sluts to walk around in short shorts to get dudes hype.. bouncers are d!@# for no reason.. take your money and spend that joint elsewhere... freaking watered down drink for fifteen a pop...never again...

I was there last week., havent been there since last year and things havent changed. The owners of this club are definately nasty bunch of people.! And the Dj's sucked! the music was horrible. they need to bring back the orginal dj's from back in the days, Visious, phase, rudeboy, etc. they can get the crowd moving. The wait for drinks was horrible and the prices are unbelieveble, i should had went to the city. NEVER AGAIN going to maracas.

i was there about 3 weeks ago and they had SERANI perform and surprise everyone , me and my friends got in before midnight for free and the place was packed , very grown sexy crowd we felt safe and comfortable . we have been to a few other places and did not have such a good time . music was good and the place felt like i was somewhere other than queens , its fab...
would go back soon ...

maracas aka rumjungle is the only club in queens that has an upscale crowd , the owners are the same as before from what i know and they are always on top of whats hot in the club scene , unlike the other local clubs and bars that have been for years trying to format themselves like these guys , the place is beautiful staff is great and friendly and they are always having some kind of promotion or free concert with top artists as a surprise , everyone whos anyone only goes to maracas and all the deadbaets who cant afford it or cant get in or fit in like to hate and leave negative reviews ,,,i guarantee you will not be dissapointed ,definite great time great djs and amazing experience ...

Went there this weekend after two years, when it was rum jungle. Will never be going back there again, the service has gone down hill with the new owners. When I entered the club it was hot as hell. There was no air conditioning in the entire place, it appears as though they removed the air condtioning and placed ceiling fans in the whole club. I assume to cut costs. When I left I had to take a shower at home because I was soaked in sweat from the heat. The VIP that they advertise is not that good. I noticed that there are more VIP areas compared to before but you get no service. Before there were people taking care of your needs because you paid top dollar for VIP. Now they cut on staffing and you have to get the extra things like cups yourself. So as a VIP you have to push yourself through a crowd of people and through the dance floor to get something like cups. The place had alot of people but to get a drink was a 30 minute wait because there were only 2 bartenders and only one bar for over 200 people, and everone was bunched together trying to get a drink and sweaty from the heat. Also, a fight broke out in the dance floor, which I know is a normal occurance, but the bad thing was that the bouncers appeared to have difficulty breaking up the fight because they weren't doing their job and observing the area for a fight but rather hanging out with other co workers. Also, the drinks are over priced for queens and more like manhatten prices. For a shot of cuervo, it cost 7 to 8 dollars and for a drink like grey goose and cranberry it was btw. 10 to 12 dollars. If you are going to spend money dont waste it there find a nice bar that plays music, probably have a better time. Also, the DJ was the worst, he jumped from one song to another like soca to R&B. There was no gradual change and he played old rock???He didn't even try it mix it he just played the original song. I could have done better with my IPOD. It's a week before carnival and the DJ played allitle bit of soca like 5 songs and old songs from 10 years ago, nothing new for 2009.

They select who they want to enter the club and sometimes it can be quite discriminating. The people who work there are very unprofessional. For example, the bouncers and even the "owner" will curse at you, push you out of the line or talk to the other bouncers about you. The bar tenders do not ID you or check for wristbands that signify you are 21 and serve alcohol to minors. Not to mention, the males who are under 21 pay the bouncers $20+ and are automatically allowed to enter the club. The admission tickets are about $15+, there is a mandatory coat check, a strict dress code and the drinks are very expensive. I recommend another club, perhaps Club Tobago, Mingles, Shipwreck, Mink, etc.
