Talay New York, Venue Description

Talay - The relaxed ambiance and stylish décor feature natural elements with high-tech touches. The captivating wooden entrance guarded by a grandiose pair of lion statues while a waterfall flows over an etched resin wall. Hues of reds, oranges and sooths guests with a tranquil color palate of slate grays, deep browns and aquatic blues. An array of Asian statues and artifacts procured by Veras create a modern culinary retreat in West Harlem. Each element of Talay has been carefully balanced by Veras and Rommel Macasaet to create a fulfilling experience for all of the senses. Talay embraces the mystique and culinary culture of Asia, and harnesses the excitement and energy of New York, offering exquisite cuisine and a lively social scene.

Talay's Thai-Latin fusion restaurant has recently closed and been replaced by Pancho Gringo, a Mexican eatery that's completely different in look and feel. Pancho Gringo has already been impressing patrons with its traditional Mexican menu, all thanks to the establishment's new chef in charge.

What a shame
Talay is a beautiful, upscale "LOOKING" club, but what a shame, the second you step foot in the place, the staff is comprised of rude obnoxious people, from the bouncers, bartender and managers. You are treated as if you do not belong there. The drinks are expensive as hell. It would be a great place if the workers were given customer service classes. they act as if they dont need your business. especially the owners daughter who thinks who she is, telling people if they dont like the service, they can leave. The music sucks, it is geared toward a teenage crowd. (teenagers = problems & fights). My advise to the owners, change the music to please an older crowd (25-40) and give your employees classes in treating customers nice, so they can return.oh yeah, and leave your daughter at home, she gives a bad impression on the business.

Talay
What is the problem with these people! Talay is an awesome place to go and get your dance on! The bartenders are awesome! Yeah the bouncers can be a little rough around the edges but then again they would be bouncers, am I right? Anyway Talay is a really hot spot where now they serve Mexican food! I love quesadillas and here there awesome! So people do go by these low life losers who just happen to have a bad night and end up blaming everything on other places or people. Take my word on it the place is great!

NICE LOOKING PLACE...STAFF RUDE
This week i celebrated my husbands bday at talay lounge and i have to agree with other members...the people running this place were extremely RUDE...who ever owns this place needs to handle his or her staff because they seem to be out of control, they do not know how to speak to people, the attitude is over the top, the club part forget it it's overly disorganized, my son's daycare is run better than this place ..i've been to many 5 star restaurants and clubs and i've never in my 30 years have dealt with such rudeness..and like someone else stated, forget about complaining... oh and that thing about dress code that's a total joke they had people with sneakers and baggy jeans all over the freaking club..its who they wanna let in i guess..honestly if who ever owns this place does not step up to deal with this issue i give this place a few more months to go down the drain..it's sad i have to be the one saying this I'm Dominican and the people running TALAY r also Dominican, but the truth is THE STAFF WAS VERY RUDE..A BUNCH OF NOBODIES WHO THINK THEY R SOMEBODY.. LOOKS DON'T MAKE U BUT A GOOD PERSONALLY WILL..

The Absolute Pits
A friend of mine was having a birthday party at this venue so I decided to come along with a model and a friend. I asked beforehand if I would be able to wear fitted jeans and sneakers, and I was told "no problem". However, when I got to the venue, while my friends were offered entry, I was denied because of the sneakers and jeans. Now, I can totally understand if they didn't want to let me in because of that...However, i saw AT LEAST 8 dudes roll in at sepaarte times with gaudy bedazzled Ed Hardy t-shirts, baggy jeans, madd jewelry and SB Dunks and Adidas sneakers. When I asked the doorperson about it, he acted like I was speaking Portugese. He then explained that they were "undercover cops" and that if he didn't let them in, "they would cause trouble". Riiiiiiiiiiiiiight. Not only that, I am all for other ethnicities starting a club. lounge or other business and making it happen, but don't descriminate. The vibe I got was that they felt this was an upscale club for people of dominican descent (judging from the clientele). I saw them turn away a group of African-American dudes dressed in slacks and shoes and some in suits.

The worse part ius the doorperson was black and doing this! When I eventually got in the club, my friend who was throwing the party was so disgusted that we left and ended up going to the Lower East Side. I spoke with the owner's daughter of the establishment and she apologized profusely and said that she had no control over the door and it was at the descretion of the promoters. Okay...BUT THIS IS YOUR ESTABLISHMENT. While she was very nice and tried to be accomodating, i just don't think she got it.

As I left, the doorperson apologized but I didn't want to hear it. I told him about himself in front of everyone...I mean really, the dude is a NOBODY who looks for SOMEBODIES.

I would never go here again.

Decor is AMAZING but the Music no so much
I am bery picky with the music I like to dance to at clubs. That being said I made my way over to Talay for a friends bday party and was pleasantly surprised with the upscale decor and the area where the club is located. However, the music was dissapointing. It is a mixture of many genres, which is good, but when it comes to playing current merengue, salsa and bachata the DJ falls behind. He also only plays like 30 seconds of the hottest Hip Hop, which left made me mad!!! if they found a better DJ, one more in touch with what Alex Sensation is playing for example the Lounge would be a Home run!!

Great place to grab a drink, a bite or lounge for the night...
I personally Like Talay. I don't know if it's the asian decor that gets me but I feel in place when I go there, it's welcoming. I make my way there a couple of times a month and i'm never disappointed. I'm well acquainted with the staff - they're very polite and great to chat with when they aren't serving drinks. Food is amazing, i recommend the Shrimp with sweet plantains mmm! Tasty and fairly priced.

The Lounge upstairs - Saturday night is my preferred night. Very pretty Latin women and well dressed gents, the music is good too - it's different. They mix Latin with House music and brazillian samba it's almost viral to the point where you can't help but move to it. Anyway I'm writing too much but check it out. If you visit this venue feel free to come back and let me know how you liked it!
till next time...
