A brig is either a sailing ship, or a military prison. The Brig in Venice looks nothing like either with its retro-modern decoration and laid-back regulars. The general vibe is a combination of Hollywood glam and Silverlake party. You’re more likely to find the conversational types on weekdays, when they come after work to play pool or use the jukebox. Weekends the Brig features DJs and attracts a Sunset Strip crowd looking for a clubby feel, and it’s amazing how different a feel the place can have. The drinks can get pricey and the guys usually outnumber the girls but the atmosphere is smart and fun and the design is one of the best in LA. The sliding table built to accommodate smokers is an inventive ways to get around California’s smoking law. Military prison, this is not.
