Nothing says summer quite like a fabulous pool party. From bikini-clad guests slathered in suntan oil to deliciously chic décor that channels the infamous Miami Beach party scene, there are a myriad of ways one can create the ultimate pool party this summer. If you are lucky enough to have access to a pool this season, it’s imperative that you properly plan your soiree or run the risk of coming off as an amateur host/hostess. Follow these simple tips from party planner extraordinaire Nathalie A. Cadet James and your next pool party will surely make a splash!

Pool Party Tip: Set the Scene
Décor is one of the most important aspects of any party. It helps establish a look, feel, and ambiance, as well as a taste level which your guests will quickly recognize and appreciate. Since this is a posh pool party, you’ll want to create a chic, sophisticated space. Opt for cool lounge furniture. You can rent or purchase waterproof chaise lounges, chairs, and large ottomans that double as beds/sitting space. “Adding various elements like lanterns hanging from the trees and gorgeous fresh flowers heightens the look and style of a pool party,” explains James. Another great touch is keeping all of your furniture one color and adding one or two accent colors for that modern burst of brightness. Think sophisticated white furniture with orange pillows. Very Miami!

Pool Party Tip: Serve Perfect Dishes
Even though a pool party is mostly about soaking up the sun, it’s also about nibbling on yummy finger foods. Choose fun eats, such as sliders, mini tacos, grilled shrimp, fruit, and sushi. Guests will want to eat throughout the party without being weighed down, so save the steaks for the next barbeque. Beverages are another place where you can lighten things up. Be sure to have plenty of bottled water and sodas, but also provide guests with cold beers and refreshing cocktails. Frozen drinks, such as mojitos and caipirinhas, are always a favorite.

Pool Party Tip: Create a Memorable Soundtrack
A pool party requires plenty of music, which means that it’s time to play DJ and gather up your favorite summer anthems. Be sure to download as many great songs as possible and let them play randomly throughout the fiesta. This will allow you to entertain and enjoy your party with ease. “If you want to amp things up when it comes to activities, throw a few beach balls and pool floaties into the mix and watch your guests light up,” suggests James. Pool parties can be upscale and chic, but they still should have an air of fun too.

The most important things to remember when throwing the ultimate pool party are sun, food, and fun. Everyone wants to enjoy themselves so be sure to keep the mood light and breezy while making sure your guests are having the time of their lives. Party on!
