New York is the Mecca of Latin nightlife, but what about a fiesta made for the rockeros y rockeras of the city? The Latin Alternative Music Conference (LAMC), one of the most important music events for and by Latinos, comes to town every year and gets everyone in a celebratory spirit as the best in Latin alternative perform at some of the top venues in New York City. This year, the 11th Annual LAMC is happening between July 6th-10th and will feature plenty of panels, exhibitions, concerts, and parties, all paying tribute to the many contributions Latinos have provided to music. More than just an extravaganza of live shows, LAMC is recognized as the only major conference that promotes the marketing of Latin alternative music. Both artists and music lovers alike can participate in networking opportunities with musicians, managers, and executives to better understand how Latinos can make their voices heard on airwaves. Over 30,000 people have attended LAMC-related events and now you can too!

Before you check out our roundup of all the LAMC events taking place this year, avoid missing out on all the music madness and register! While registration for LAMC is only $99, walk-ups will have to pay a whopping $299. Be cool and visit LatinAlternative.com for your passes. You can register or pick up your admission during LAMC at The Roosevelt Hotel in Manhattan. While some events are free and open to the public, others are semi-private. Top LAMC 2010 Event: iTunes and LAMC Present: Live @ SoHo with Ana Tijoux @ Apple Store
Tuesday, July 6

Kick off the LAMC festivities with a special live performance by Chilean hip-hop reina Ana Tijoux at the Apple Store in SoHo, the haven of New York City’s fashionistas. She rocks the mic so damn well that you won’t even be tempted to splurge on an iPad!

Top LAMC 2010 Event: BMI Presents Verano Alternativo 2010 @ S.O.B.’s
Tuesday, July 6

Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI), the U.S. performing right organization, announced the return of its highly successful Latin music showcase, Verano Alternativo. This year’s showcase will feature original, multi-talented troubadours whose performances will serve as a special kick off to LAMC. Expect featured performances by Latin rock fusionists Punto G NYC, political starlet Maria Isa, electronica siren Maluca, and reggae mashers Bachaco.

Top LAMC 2010 Event: Heineken presents Chaca Chaca NY @ Knitting Factory-Brooklyn
Tuesday, July 6

Also joining in the festivities is Heineken and while this is the perfect opportunity to stock up on beer, the Knitting Factory in Brooklyn is highlighting live performances by Colombian group Palenke Soultribe, “eco-friendly” project Maleco Collective, Miami’s best Latin alternative band Locos Por Juana, and urban folk band Mestizaje. This show is free, but we’re being told that all participants must arrive early for front row seating…you know what to do!

Wednesday, July 7

Spend a picturesque evening in Manhattan’s majestic Central Park for an exclusive Summerstage performance made for and by Latinos. Leading the night is Tijuana electronica stars Nortec Collective Presents: Bostich + Fussible. In addition, Barcelona experimentalist El Guincho will take over the stage and if you were one of the few to miss Tijoux’s performance on Tuesday night, you can spot her again.

After checking out Central Park Summerstage, quickly make your way to the Mercury Lounge in lower Manhattan, one of the best places to hear live music in the city. Discover some of the top up-and-coming Latin indie acts from across the country. Audiences can see performances by Mexico glam rockers Moderatto, Panamanian dancehall meets hip-hop’s Los Rakas, La Bien Querida, Mexico electronic innovator Mexican Institute of Sound, Los Tres, Orishas rapper Yotuel, and Colombian beatmaker Isa GT.

Nacotheque’s Amylulita will be taking over the ultra posh Cameo Gallery in Brooklyn for an entire night dedicated to the best of Latin indie pop. This is the second annual LAMC dance party for pop and it shouldn’t be missed. Those involved with this fiesta are already telling us that this year will include double the fun, so how could you possibly say no to that? Live on stage is Puerto Rico’s Balun, BK’s own Kordan, Mexico’s Sweet Electra, and Spain’s Los Punsetes.
