Cocktail of the Week: One Good Pinch

We love lifting our spirits during happy hour at local watering holes or upscale lounges, but let’s face it, the usual martini or shooter can get bland week after week, resulting in that dreaded bar rut. This happens when patrons become too comfortable ordering their signature drink at nearly every venue they visit, whether it’s after work or on the weekends. With numerous cocktails to savor, one shouldn’t have to face this problem unless they just don’t know how to have their mixologist keep the spark alive. If you need a brand new pick-me-up, we suggest spicing up your night with One Good Pinch, a Latin punch created by Phil Ward of New York City’s Mayahuel that features sweet, succulent watermelon, as well as fiery cayenne pepper. One Good Pinch also incorporates Flor de Cana, a best-selling rum from Nicaragua that highlights notes of creamy caramel and vanilla. There’s nothing like adding a bit of Nicaraguan heat to one’s chilly evening. One Good Pinch will not only have you drinking to the final drop, but literally pinching yourself over how spectacular this hot number tastes.

One Good Pinch Recipe

Ingredients
2 oz. Rum (We used Flor de Cana)
1 Seedless watermelon
One pinch of cayenne pepper
4 Sugar cubes
1 oz. Lime juice
1 oz. Club Soda
1 Pineapple slice
1 Strawberry slice

Preparation
Dissolve the sugar cubes in club soda. Add and muddle several 1-inch pieces of watermelon. Finally, add the rest of the ingredients one at a time and stir as added. Chill before serving. Recipe can be multiplied to fill a traditional punch bowl.
