Cocktail of the Week: Paradijs

If you’ve been on the east coast recently, then chances are you’re one of the many who’s fed up with the constant winter wonderland we’ve been plagued with. From snow storms to blizzards, Mother Nature keeps reminding us that we’re no closer to spring, making going out for happy hour harder than finding boots on sale. It’s no wonder that some are tempted to leave work behind and embark on a tropical getaway to muy caliente Mexico or picture perfect Brazil. While the trip may be impossible (for now anyway), we’ll settle for the next best thing-an easy to make thirst quenching cocktail that’ll leave us feeling as if we’re soaking up the sun on a pearl-white beach with turquoise seas. Paradijs, the Dutch word for “paradise” is the name of this drink, taking a cue from the Van Gogh Vodka used in the recipe. Those who particularly love the refreshing, crisp, gratifying taste of pineapple will adore Paradijs, which features both pineapple juice and vodka. To balance out the drink’s suddenly tart note, ripe strawberries are added, which also creates Paradijs’ soft pink hue. Can’t work up a bronze tan or show off that bikini-ready body anytime soon? Then settle for a Paradijs, the cocktail that’ll bring paradise to you.
