Did the famous psychic saw this coming?
Walter Mercado has officially announced that after 15 years of working for Univision, he has parted ways with the popular Latin television network. However, it seems that the problems started years ago, around the mid 90’s to be exact. According to media reports, Mercado had hopes of promoting his brand in the United States, while shooting segments for Univision. While he was supposed to receive $32,000 for clothes (those jeweled robes cost that much?!), it seems that the deal didn’t suit Mercado after all. Consequently, he was sued by manager Guillermo Bakula for $10 million and after court hearings, Mercado was found guilty of breaking his contract.
According to Mercado:
I have legal problems with a former manager of mine, who runs a number of fraudulent commercials using my name without rights, and they (Univision) wanted me to ignore them even though the advertisements feature a photograph I took five years ago and have nothing to do with me. I can not fool my audience and so I decided to say goodbye.
Apparently, since Mercado wasn’t getting proper compensation for his work, he left behind Univision for greener pastures. So far, it’s not known what’s next for Mercado, but we have a feeling a lot of grandmothers are going to be pissed about not hearing their daily horoscope.
