Mariah Carey Lashes Out Over Illegal Downloads

It wasn’t too long ago when we announced that Mariah Carey’s new album, Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel, wasn’t doing well on the charts, but that hasn’t stopped the diva from fuming over the supposed reason why.

Carey has blamed music industry leaders for failing to spot illegal downloads of her album. In other words, she’s implying that the reason why her album isn’t so hot is because people have already downloaded it, so there’s no need to actually buy it.

"Frickin' idiots! A lot of big, powerful music industry executives made a giant mistake and now we're all paying the price,” Carey exclaims. “A lot of big, powerful music industry executives made a giant mistake and now we're all paying the price. They gave the music business away on the internet. If they had just sat back and said, 'Maybe let's figure this internet thing out, it could be something cool,' we could have found a way to distribute music online on our own terms, not somebody else's. Prince had already shown them the way. He was so far ahead of the curve, putting his records out on the web. Everyone else was stupid."

Where have you been, Carey? Online file sharing is alive and well. It may not be right, but with today’s economy, not too many listeners are eager to donate $15-20 for a mediocre album.
