Director Robert Rodriguez and longtime fiancé Rose McGowan have reportedly broken off their engagement.
McGowan recently filmed Rodriguez’s action flick Machete, which co-stars Lindsay Lohan, Jessica Alba, and Robert De Niro in Texas. The actress is scheduled to star in the comic book adaptation Red Sonja and Rodriguez is set to produce the very same film. Perhaps a reconciliation isn’t out of the question considering that they’ll be working together so soon?
Reps for the couple haven’t made any comments on the separation.
McGowan and Rodriguez announced their engagement in October 2007 after becoming romantically involved in 2006 while filming Grindhouse. The movie was directed by Rodriguez and starred McGowan as a stripper with a machine-gun leg.
For a long time, many speculated that their not-so-secret relationship was the reason Rodriguez divorced Elizabeth Avellán, his wife of 16 years. However, the director later issued a statement saying that he and Avellán had separated long before the production of Grindhouse.
McGowan and Rodriguez went public with their relationship in May 2007 and have been together ever since. Rumors of an alleged breakup first surfaced when Rodriguez’s plan to star the actress in a remake of Barbarella fell through. However, McGowan soon announced to the media that she and Rodriguez were still together and very much in love.
