The Estefans Join Miami Dolphins as Minority Owners

So what does a famous icon do after retiring? In the case of Gloria Estefan, you buy a popular football team.

The international superstar and her hubby Emilio recently became minority owners of the Miami Dolphins. Sounds random? Not so. This sudden move makes the power couple the first Cuban-Americans to own a professional football team. In addition, the Estefans are representing Florida’s cultural melting pot.

“I have always said that ownership should reflect the wonderful diversity of South Florida,” says Stephan M. Ross, Owner and Managing General Partner of the Miami Dolphins. “And having Emilio and Gloria join the team as minority partners is just the first step towards including many of the diverse elements of this community as part of our ownership group.”

A longtime fan of the Dolphins, Gloria will show her appreciation by participating with Monday Night Football for their game against the New York Jets on October 12, in conjunction with the NFL celebration of Hispanic Heritage month.

We have a feeling this won’t be the last time we hear of the Estefans!
