Los Yetzons: The Future of Reggaeton

While many artists aspire to make a name for themselves in the music industry, Los Yetzons have already set their career in motion.  The reggaeton duo recently traveled to New York City where they released their hit single “Nadie Como Tu.”  Yet, it was just another day for friends Jose Alexis Ortiz and Jose Antonio Figueroa when they arrived from the Dominican Republic to meet with fans and promote a song of personal pain.

“Anthony met this girl and they were madly in love, but she then left, which broke his heart,” Ortiz, also known as “Small” explains from his native Puerto Rico.  “He was inspired to write about his relationship, which became the story behind ‘Nadie Como Tu.’”  Aside from channeling the sorrows of a failed relationship to a reggaeton-meets-pop beat, Los Yetzons were given the opportunity to work with Dominican-American Director Marlon Peña to create a beachside themed video with bikini-clad heartbreakers.  It was a collaboration that, as an artist, Small continues to cherish.  “We always want to make sure that our music sounds perfect for our fans,” he explains.  “Peña understood exactly what we wanted to accomplish and how we can make our music relatable to those that are discovering us for the first time.  Every single word we write has a meaning.  It’s a challenge to show that in a video, but he gave it his all to make this project a reality.”

Small also made no hesitation in discussing how the Dominican Republic has played a major role in the direction Los Yetzons hopes to take with their talent.  “We love Santo Domingo and listening to bachata,” he remarks while chuckling.  “Bachata has a romantic quality that we’re definitely going to incorporate into our music more.”  However, it’s not just exploring different musical traditions that are making Los Yetzons a major trend.  “We’re first and foremost fans of music, so we take everything from ballads to dance, adding more colors to reggaeton,” he states.  With countries like Spain and China demanding more reggaeton on airwaves, the movement is only growing and Los Yetzons is getting the party started.

With their budding success, what do Los Yetzons have in store for listeners? The answer is simple. “Look for us winning a Grammy and taking over the world,” boasts Small.
