Cocktail of the Week: The Latin Lemonade

The scorching sun glares down from a cloudless blue sky as beads of sweat drip down your moist skin. Your sunglasses slip as you anxiously pant for air, and that new outfit is clinging tighter than last year’s swimsuit. The sizzling pavement burns through thin flip flops, and a sudden gasp of a cool wind seems like a dream. It’s officially summertime and the heat has never been so brutal. Fortunately, there’s a quick cure that can combat rising temperatures, while quenching that never ending thirst: a tall, frosty glass of icy, tart lemonade. Best of all, this timeless classic has a new makeover, Latin style.

The steamy season is all about escaping our everyday lives for some excitement, which is why a vacation to South Beach is a must this year, especially to try the one cocktail that’s guaranteed to keep you looking and feeling cool. The Latin Lemonade, served at Ola Miami in the Sanctuary Hotel, is like seeing a crystal clear pool at the end of a hazy desert: prepare to make a run for it before it suddenly disappears.  Lemonade, which is usually a mixture of water, sugar, lemon or lime juice, has been perfected with tender slices of passion fruit and guava blended to a creamy puree, along with a splash of smooth rum for a zesty, tangy finish. Thanks to a tad bit of 7UP, this bubbly, dreamy citrus concoction has a fresh crisp taste that‘s ideal for the beach. Who can resist such a cocktail on a blistering hot day? When life gives you lemons (and a bottle of rum), you better make some Latin Lemonade!
