If you ever doubted Wisin y Yandel’s talents, than think again because they’re forever changing the music industry.
The Puerto Rican duo, crowned as Latin urban music’s top-selling artists, had the biggest debut of a Latin album in two years with La Revolución, reaching the #1 spot on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums and #7 on Billboard’s Top 200. La Revolución has already sold 35,000 copies in its first week alone. Oh and by the way, that’s just the US! Internationally, La Revolución reached #1 in Mexico, Venezuela, Argentina, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador, and Central America. The last time a Latin album has managed to had such a successful premiere was when Wisin y Yandel released Los Extraterrestres in 2007. That album went on to achieve multi-platinum status, a Grammy, and a Latin Grammy.
“These numbers may seem astonishing in today’s marketplace, but when it comes to Wisin y Yandel nothing is surprising,” says Walter Kolm, President of Universal Music Latino and Machete Music. “They exceed expectations time and time again, even breaking their own records. We are extremely proud that they are part of our family of labels.”
Like their new album, Wisin y Yandel’s latest single is also heating things up. “Abusadora,” which debuted yesterday on the MTV Network, is already at #2 on Billboard’s Latin Rhythm Chart. This marks the first time a Latin urban video made completely in Spanish is played on all the MTV channels.
If you can’t get enough of Wisin y Yandel, then make sure you catch them at their first-ever 15 city US tour. Tickets for La Revolución will go live this Friday, June 5, so hit the web early by going to Ticketmaster.com. We have no doubt that their US concert dates will sell out fast.
