Obama Nominates First Latina to Supreme Court

We’re going to take a mini-break from our usual celebrity gossip to let all of our readers know about the wonderful news we received this morning.

President Obama made history once again by nominating Judge Sonia Sotomayor to serve on the nation’s highest court. If confirmed, the 54-year-old will be the first Hispanic to serve on the Supreme Court and the third woman in justice!

The Princeton and Yale educated Sotomayor, who has served on the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit since 1998, was born and raised in The Bronx by her widowed mother, who raised the judge and her brother on a modest salary.

According to the New York Times, she has “earned a reputation as a sharp, outspoken, and fearless jurist, someone who does not let powerful interests bully, rush, or cow her into a decision.”

Congrats and best of luck to Sotomayor!
