If you’re a fan of Colombian singing sensation Fonseca and are located in the Los Angeles area, then we have a special treat for you.
We just found out that on Tuesday, June 9, The Grammy Museum will host the international superstar for an onstage interview and performance with Chief Curator Ken Luftig Viste.
“The fusion of traditional sounds with contemporary song craft throughout Latin America has resulted in some of this decade’s most interesting and appealing Latin pop,” says Viste. “Drawing in particular upon his native Colombia’s vallenato, Fonseca’s confident and warm recordings have proved broadly appealing to audiences throughout the globe, so we’re particularly excited to welcome him as the first Latin artist to appear in conversation and performance at the museum.”
Fonseca, whose real name is Juan Fernando Fonseca, caught the music bug at age five and made his recording debut in 2002 with his self-titled album. Fonseca’s first release was an instant hit in his native Colombia, thanks to his unique, infectious blend of vallenato, cumbia, and Latin pop, which can be heard in tracks like “Magangue,” “Confiésame,” and “Noche de Carnaval.” His second CD, Corazón, was released on EMI Televisa in 2005 and went on to double platinum sales with hit songs “Hace Tiempo,” “Mercedes,” “Lagartija Azul,” and the Latin Grammy-winning “Te Mando Flores.” Fonseca’s third album, Gratitud, was released in 2008 and dedicated to the freedom of all hostages in Colombia. As a widely celebrated musician and winner of many prestigious awards, Fonseca hopes to continue crossing new boundaries and performing across the globe throughout 2009 and beyond.
Before Fonseca performs for 200 guests in the museum’s Grammy Sound Stage, he’ll answer Viste’s questions about his songwriting, charitable work, and musical influences. After the interview, Fonseca will take questions from the audience and perform live.
“Spotlight: Fonseca” will take place at 8PM on the second floor of The Grammy Museum. For more info and tickets, click here.
