Looks like Alex Rodriguez has some competition and we’re not talking about Madonna’s new boy-toy Jesus Luz!
Baseball player Manny Ramirez was suspended for 50 games by Major League Baseball today due to a failed performance-enhancing test
According to the Los Angeles Dodgers star, he didn’t take steroids and was instead given a medication by a doctor that contained a banned substance.
"Recently, I saw a physician for a personal health issue. He gave me a medication, not a steroid, which he thought was OK to give me," says the 36-year-old outfielder. "Unfortunately, the medication was banned under our drug policy. Under the policy that mistake is now my responsibility. I have been advised not to say anything more for now. I do want to say one other thing; I've taken and passed about 15 drug tests over the past five seasons."
The suspension prevents Manny from returning to the Dodgers-a team with the best record in baseball. In addition, he will lose about $7.65 million of his $25 million salary.
However, losing Manny could be a major blow to his team as he is responsible for single-handedly increasing fan participation in games, merchandise sales, and overall interest in the Dodgers. Los Angeles have even renamed a section of seats in left field at Dodger Stadium “Mannywood” in his honor!
People, stay off the roids!
