Chocolate may be considered “food of the gods,” but it was Latinos who’ve had the longest affair with the sweet treat that has captivated people from around the world. Cocoa beans, grown from cacao trees, were originally harvested throughout the lush rainforests of Central America for thousands of years and with good reason. During pre-Colombian times, the Aztecs created a famous elixir made of roasted cacao, maize, and chili spices, which was savored by the elite to increase their sexual stamina. Even emperor Montezuma reportedly drank up to 50 goblets of hot chocolate a day before he satisfied his many wives and mistresses. To this day, the devilish dessert is still recognized as an aphrodisiac by many. However, when chocolate is combined with alcohol, anyone can become like Montezuma and get laid.
