One of the greatest Latin musical legends will finally be celebrated for being the icon that she is.
Cuban singer Gloria Estefan will be honored as a BMI Icon on Thursday, March 12 at the 16th annual Latin Awards. Held at The Breakers Ponce De Leon Ballroom in Palm Beach, Florida, the black-tie, invitation-only gala will also recognize the songwriters and publishers of the past year’s top BMI Latin songs played on American radio and television.
An all-star musical tribute will pay homage to Gloria Estefan who joins an elite list of past honorees that includes Latin music titans Gustavo Santaolalla, Los Tigres Del Norte, Juan Luis Guerra, and Carlos Santana, along with legends Willie Nelson, Brian Wilson, Isaac Hayes, Paul Simon, Dolly Parton and the late James Brown. Now that’s making music!
Gloria Estefan may be one of the world’s most recognizable and beloved performers, but it’s her talent that has made her a leader in the music industry. From her international breakout success with the Miami Sound Machine to her current award-winning music, Gloria is known for combining “traditional sounds of her native Cuba with infectious pop, dance, and other Latin grooves to create a distinct sound capable of topping charts and uniting people.”
With the help of her business partner and husband Emilio Estefan, Gloria Estefan has sold more than 70 million albums. In addition, she has won three Grammys, four Latin Grammys, well as many other MTV, VMA, and Cable ACE Awards. Then in 2008, she was named the Latin Recording Academy Person of the Year. Gloria’s many years of creating hit singles continues to pay off for the 51-year-old star and we aren’t complaining!
In addition to the Icon tribute, the BMI ceremony will also recognize the Latin Song, Songwriter, and Publisher of the Year. Previous honorees include Latin superstars Juanes, Shakira, Wisin & Yandel, Espinoza Paz, Luis “Louie” Padilla, and Ramón González Mora.
Can’t wait to find out who else will be awarded? Stay tuned!
