Why is it that the beautiful tend to die so young?
Mariana Bridi da Costa, the 20-year-old Brazilian beauty who made the final stages of the Miss World pageant, died on Saturday morning after battling an infection for weeks.
The young model was diagnosed with kidney stones before doctors discovered she actually had a urinary tract infection caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa. In other words, Mariana was suffering from a rare type of bacteria that is known to be drug resistant.
The infection was limiting the amount of oxygen being pumped to her hands and feet, which forced doctors to amputate them. Despite major efforts, Mariana didn’t make it.
After her sudden death, Mariana’s grieving father Agnaldo Costa spoke to reporters outside the hospital.
“God is comforting our hearts because he wanted her to be with him now,” he stated. “I can’t accept that my daughter left us so soon.”
Mariana was on her way to a successful modeling career during the time of her death.
