Label reps have confirmed that Dominican pop singer Kat DeLuna, who left Epic Records in October, has found a new home at Universal Motown. In honor of her recent career move, she is scheduled to release a new single featuring Lil Wayne in the upcoming weeks.
In a YouTube video posted for New Year's Eve, Kat explains that the single is "a little bit different, but crazy," and that her sophomore album will be released this year. RedOne, who produced Kat’s debut album, 9 Lives, has confirmed he will be re-teaming with the opera-trained singer. RedOne even told Billboard.com a few months ago that "She is the new, modern-day Selena."
Photos have already leaked of Kat’s new video with Lil Wayne, which includes her channeling Morticia Adams, riding a motorcycle, and sporting a bird’s nest for a not so glam hairstyle. We aren’t sure what to make of Kat’s unusual do, but we hope the single makes up for it!
9 Lives has sold 65,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen soundscan. Its lead single, "Whine Up," featuring Elephant Man, peaked at No. 29 on the Billboard Hot 100.
