Daft Punk To Appear At The Grammys

Daft Punk To Appear At The Grammys

by Mikey Lavery

There was a huge announcement from the Grammy's this morning, as the historical, iconic music award ceremony released their live artist line up; all of whom will all be appearing at the 56th Annual Grammy Awards at Los Angeles's Staples Center on January 26th 2014. It was revealed that, for the first time since 2008, Daft Punk will make their first TV appearance. Now, before you all hit back, reminding us that the were at the MTV Video Music Awards back in August, we don't mean they'll just WALKING out on stage. Yes, that's right; the French electronic duo will be performing live and that, my dance music loving friends, is a HUGE thing.

Despite having one of the biggest records of the year with "Get Lucky," Daft Punk live very secluded lives--as we explained in our story earlier this week about the history of their helmets -- the two DJs behind the act, French duo, Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter, are rarely seen out in public, especially in their Robot guises. That's not to say they've been hiding this year. They've appeared on the front cover of VIBE magazine and they shot a fashion spread in Vogue, but, performance wise, this January in Los Angeles will be one not to be missed.

In a statement to Rolling Stone, Grammy executive producer Ken Ehrlich said, "We learned that because they had such a good experience with us when they appeared with Kanye (West) in 2008, they were happy to discuss a performance on this year's show," He goes on to say, "Conversations took place over a period of a couple of months, and finally they agreed to be a part of this year's telecast. Details of the performance are still being worked out, but the idea of having the exclusive television performance by this iconic band is something we're very, very excited about."

Daft Punk have been nominated for four awards: Album Of The Year and Best Dance/Electronica Album for "Random Access Memories" and Record Of The Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for "Get Lucky."

Also announced to be appearing at this awards show will be Pink (along with Nate Russ of FUN!), Kendrick Lemar and Las Vegas rock act Imagine Dragons.

The Grammy Awards will air live on CBS on January 26th, at 8 p.m. EST.
