It's with great sadness that we bring the news this morning that Paul Bäumer
, of the hugely popular electronic dance music act, the Bingo Players
, has lost his battle with cancer.
Paul had fallen ill earlier this year and was diagnosed with disease but sadly within the last hour, his musical partner Maarten Hoogstraten
announced on the Bingo Players
Facebook page, that Paul had passed away last night. It was also announced that the Bingo Players
have cancelled all upcoming shows for the rest of the year.
In his message he wrote:
I’m deeply saddened to tell you that Paul passed away last night after his battle with cancer. He fought strongly until the end.
We want to thank you all for your support over the past few months.
Needless to say, all upcoming shows for the rest of this year have been cancelled as we’re going through this loss with family and friends. We’ll post a longer update shortly with more information as well.
Paul, we will miss you.
The Bingo Players
formed in Holland
and grew as both DJs and producers in the Dutch electro house scene, releasing a string of hits that charted in various countries across Europe
. However, it wasn't until 2011
and after the release of their smash hit, "Rattle
," that the pair hit international stardom and quickly made their mark as one of the world's most in demand DJs.
Renowned for hugely energetic shows and massive following within the dance music community, both Paul and Maarten gained legions of fans thanks to their social interaction between themselves and their club community following. Whether is was at their events or via social media, the duo always took time to communicate with their fans.
, and with the re-release of "Rattle
," this time revamped and remixed and called "Get Up (Rattle)
," the track went to Number One in the UK and hit the Top Ten across the rest of Europe. The single has been certified gold in Canada, silver in the UK, and four times platinum in Australia. They also had huge success with the track, "Cry, Just a Little
As electronic dance music exploded in the U.S., so did the country's love for the Bingo Players
and the duo found themselves touring heavily to sold out shows across the country, ever growing in popularity. However, it was during this year's festival season, on July 19th, that an announcement was made via their Facebook page that Paul had been diagnosed with cancer and he would be taking time off from touring, and that Maarten would be representing the duo on the road for the foreseeable future.
Always the worker and lover of dance music, Paul made it clear that he would not be bowing out from the scene altogether and would be working in the studio as well as taking lead in running their label, Hysteria,
while at the same time having medical treatment to fight the disease.
Last night, on December 17th, Paul sadly lost that battle and passed away.
